National Data Reporter

This position can be based in any ACBJ market.

This position will be Hybrid in the office/market 3 days per week, and those days of the week can be flexible in consultation with your manager.

The National Data Reporter will be the driving force of data journalism in the National Newsroom — producing content for both national coverage and data stories/packages created specifically to be adapted for local ACBJ publications.

The ideal candidate is constantly searching for new ways to tell stories with data. They must be relentless in their pursuit of new data sources and capable of distilling those data sets into actionable business intelligence for our readers.

This position will work closely with others in the National Newsroom and on the Editorial Strategy Team to coordinate coverage, capitalize on time-sensitive opportunities and to identify potential new Lists that could be successful at the national and/or local level.

In addition to data journalism, the National Data Reporter will provide editing support, as necessary, for the National Newsroom.

Skills & Experience

Experience producing data-driven journalism and/or Lists
Skilled at data management, including the ability to structure, normalize and spotlight trends from large data sets and databases’
Ability to seamlessly juggle multiple projects at the same time
Knowledge of computer data-management applications, including Excel.
Meticulous eye for detail
Passionate about finding and dissecting data from surveys, regulatory agencies, other public documents and sources
Copyediting experience
Ability to coordinate and collaborate with large teams on projects
Superior communication skills

Job Responsibilities

Produce localizable data stories/packages to distribute to markets
Conceive and produce national data stories/packages
Collaborate with others in the National Newsroom to leverage data opportunities with their coverage
Coordinate with others on the National Editorial Team to produce national Lists and strategic Lists in Digital Cities
Provide support to local researchers/data reporters when necessary
Identify new data sets/sources that could be utilized for Lists or data stories/packages
Contribute to the data components of national projects
Work with others in the National Newsroom and on the National Editorial Team to leverage local and national opportunities from available data sources (Bloomberg Terminal, Cirium, etc.)
Serve as one of the liaisons with local markets for Bloomberg Terminal requests
Serve as a copy editor for the National Newsroom when required
