The Media Leader is less than two years old but is widely regarded as the leading UK trade publication for the media business of advertising. Having rebranded from Mediatel News in 2022 and grown significantly since then, we are creating a new role with significant potential to grow in a dynamic and exciting industry.
We are currently seeking a senior journalist to create great content about what’s happening in media and advertising. Depending on the candidate, we will hire either a deputy editor, or a senior reporter that will be expected to progress to deputy editor. This person will report to the editor-in-chief and manage a team of reporters.
The ideal candidate will be able to produce high-quality content for our website, daily newsletter, podcast and video output, as well as maintain high professional standards, enjoy working on a wide range of editorial projects, as well as strive for improvement within a growing team.
The publication works closely with Adwanted Events, the provider of some of the biggest industry events, such as the Future of TV Advertising Series, the Future of Media, the Future of Brands, and Connected TV World Summit. The Media Leader journalists play an integral role in shaping the content for these events, as well as conducting live interviews on stage and creating content for our site, social media, podcast and video channels.
Core Responsibilities
The main things you would do:
Research, write and edit articles related to media and advertising
Manage daily content for the website and newsletter
Contribute to our podcast and video channel
Help shape the content for our industry-leading events, as well as interview people on stage
Develop and maintain excellent relationships with sources and industry experts
Stay up-to-date with current events and trends in the media and advertising industries
Contribute to the development of new content ideas and projects
The Skills We’re Looking For
We would expect this role to appeal to someone with at least three years of experience in journalism but this is not a minimum requirement.
Experience of reporting on the media and/or the advertising is preferred but not essential.
Strong writing and editing skills
Basic production skills for handling audio and video would be a bonus (we work with internal and external video and audio producers)
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of SEO best practices and social media platforms
