About The Role

For 20 years, TVNewser Editor has been the go-to source for the latest on the national television news industry. TVNewser Editor brings the scoop on what’s happening inside the highly competitive worlds of broadcast, cable and digital TV news. From the big gets to the big gaffes, we analyze the breaking news, rating wins, talent moves and programming shifts with inside access and exclusive interviews.

Reporting to ADWEEK’s Deputy TV Editor, the TVNewser Editor will manage the day-to-day of TVNewser, writing news stories, posting ratings and assigning/editing stories for a team of freelancers. This position requires someone with a passion for the news industry and inner workings of TV news networks, as there will be times when coverage requires working non-traditional hours on nights and weekends.

The TVNewser Editor covers the programming, personalities, ratings and news about cable, broadcast and streaming news services. Writing 5-8 posts per day, this editor focuses exclusively on TVNewser with occasional contributions to ADWEEK.com and ADWEEK magazine. The editor also participates in podcasts and videos, moderates ADWEEK events and attends and covers industry conferences and events to seek new sources and develop story ideas.

This role will be a hybrid, based out of ADWEEK’s Office in New York City.

Specifically, Your Impact Will Be Based On

3-5 year’s experience as a reporter and editor
Writing 5-8 posts per day covering the TV news industry
Assigning stories to and editing freelancers
Continuously working to expand your network of sources, mindful of diversity and gender balance
Developing a deep understanding of assigned beat and understanding the dynamics of the TV news industry, industry trends, its key players and what is of interest to TVNewser's audience
Maintaining ADWEEK’s standards for integrity, objectivity and ethics
Keen news sense
Ability to consistently meet deadlines and produce clean copy/content
Familiarity with AP style
Familiarity with SEO and social media best practices
Ability to analyze data, work with survey data, earnings and government filings, such as SEC data
Strong organization and ability to prioritize
Planning, organizing and participating in ADWEEK events, working with the Deputy TV Editor and Events staff

What Will Set You Apart

A strong passion for the TV news industry
At least 3 years of editing experience
A rolodex of TV news industry sources
Experience working with WordPress and other CMS
Experience analyzing data and working with spreadsheets
Excellent writing and critical thinking skills
Presentation skills, panel moderation and public speaking
Strong leadership and coaching skills; ability to mentor, bring a team together to achieve results and develop individual talent across a team

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Details: $62K-$72K - The salary range represents the Company’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on several factors, including the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, and location. Please note that this role is hybrid, based out of the New York City office and that ADWEEK is a New York based company and the salary listed reflects candidates located within the New York tri-state area.
