Digital Verification Reporter

New Posted 20 December 2022 | Montreal, Quebec, Canada | AFP

Global news agency AFP is offering an exciting opportunity to be a part of its fast-growing digital verification network, which has taken a frontline role in combating misinformation, fact-checking and monitoring emerging narratives that shape public perceptions of news events around the world. The journalist -- to be based in Montreal -- will focus on misinformation in Canada and write fact-checking stories from around the country. The role requires an ability to work in a fast-paced multimedia newsroom and meet tight deadlines, working in tandem with AFP journalists in the United States and across the world. While the journalist will specialize in fact-check writing, they may also be required to assist with other coverage in the Montreal bureau or to write news stories about disinformation. Applicants must have strong writing skills. The journalist will write in English, but must also be able to translate articles from French. Good communication skills, both written and oral are necessary, as is an ability to multitask. The position requires an agile journalist who can easily navigate major social media platforms — including Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and encrypted chat apps. Experience in digital verification and investigation techniques and tools is desirable but not essential, as appropriate training will be provided.
