Apartment Therapy is seeking an Editor, Style & Design to join our Home team, which includes the Home Projects, Style, and Real Homes verticals. The role will report to Apartment Therapy’s Executive Home Director and work with senior editorial leadership to support the short- and long-term goals of the Style vertical playing a crucial role in coverage across the entire Home content team.
We're seeking a writer and editor who can multitask with aplomb. The ability to write and edit stories about home decor, interior design trends, product reviews, and recommendations is a must, as is the ability to understand traffic patterns, ideate on new story formats, and spot emerging and interesting design/DIY trends and themes in the home space. The ideal candidate is as comfortable writing up a reported and well-sourced trend explainer or how-to as they are assigning out a quick-turn, sharp, and social-friendly story on a celebrity home style secret.
This Editor will work on day-to-day content and larger brand-defining tentpole projects to distill tips, hacks, DIYs, and tutorials to our readers in approachable, achievable ways. It will also play a pivotal role ideating and assigning across our larger coverage areas including projects, renovations, remodels, and home gardening.
This is a hybrid writing and editing role that supports the overall success of the Home team, with ~70% of the role dedicated to editing both day-to-day and tentpole content and ~30% dedicated to writing and content management.
Responsibilities:
Pitch, write, and edit ~12 stories per week within the Home vertical, across new and existing content in the home decor and interior design trend space
Bring new voices and perspectives to Apartment Therapy that represent a range of lived experiences
Work on day-to-day content and larger projects to distill tips, hacks, DIYs, and tutorials to our readers in approachable, optimized story formats
Collaborate with the Executive Home Director and AT leadership to strategize on ways to grow the vertical and internal team
Support the vertical’s traffic and post goals, working alongside the Executive Home Director to identify trends, ideate new formats, and continue to grow overall vertical traffic
Work with the Home team editors to help conceive brand-defining tentpoles and initiatives, such as Design Changemakers and Small/Cool
Attend in-person and online events on behalf of Apartment Therapy, as needed
Requirements:
4-5 years of digital experience writing and/or editing in the home decor and style space
Top-notch organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
An eagerness to work across verticals and teams, and to take initiative as opportunities arise
Ability to turn around clean copy on tight deadlines
A strong, distinctive voice, with an ability to write for Apartment Therapy’s audience across platforms
An astute awareness of what makes a Home story interesting, with the ability to apply the Apartment Therapy lens to it
Experience using analytics tools such as Parse.ly and Google Analytics to inform strategy, as well as a willingness to learn more
Ability to balance multiple priorities and to quickly adjust strategy and execution in the face of new information
Salary Range: $75,000 - 80,000 annually
The above represents the expected salary range for this role. Ultimately, compensation is determined by level of experience, location, and other job-related factors.
