Data Editor and Reporter

The data editor and reporter acquires and analyzes local public data to identify and report compelling local stories, producing their own work while collaborating with other reporters. The data editor and reporter has experience scraping websites and working with records custodians to gather data; submitting public record requests, analyzing datasets as well as producing compelling data visualizations and conducting research and interviews across multiple public interest topics. This position generates data-driven stories from conception to publication, communicating via written word as well as data visualization, charts, graphs, and photographs; and is responsible for managing web production and distribution for content produced.

We require at least a bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience or master’s degree and 2+ years of experience. Experience is required using software tools including Tableau, Datawrapper, Flourish; statistical tools such as Excel, R, Python; geospatial and mapping tools such as QGIS, Mapbox, ArcGIS; research tools such as Factiva, LexisNexis; Adobe and Microsoft Office suites; web language such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
