About The Role
This is an opportunity to join the award-winning ABC Investigations unit, a team comprised of some of Australia's most accomplished investigative journalists.
In this role you will investigate and break original news, and current affairs stories that have an impact on the national agenda. You will work across ABC platforms including News, 4 Corners, 7.30, and Background Briefing to create high-impact and engaging digital first content. You will also be working with producers, identifying suitable sources, and arranging and conducting interviews.
The Role Will Also Involve
Generating stories that are relevant to a broad section of Australians and reflect the cultural, geographic and socio-economic diversity of Australia
Presenting complex items, programs and coverage with speed and accuracy.
Developing and maintaining an in-depth understanding of national current events and issues. Broaden the ABC’s contact base and develop relationships with key institutions/communities/players nationally.
Adopting a flexible, collaborative approach colleagues in different locations to develop stories of common interest to the state/network.
About You
We are seeking a creative self-starter with highly advanced experience in investigating and breaking stories that have an impact on the daily national agenda. You will have significant experience as a senior reporter with highly advanced research skills, excellent contacts across a range of areas and demonstrated editorial/creative judgement. You work well collaborating in a team environment and can demonstrate an ongoing interest and passion in finding and telling stories that reflect Australia’s diversity.
You Will Also Have
High level writing skills for both online news and feature articles.
A demonstrated ability to source and develop complex investigative stories across all platforms.
Excellent presentation skills for all multi-media programming, including for Q+As
high level skills in writing engaging video and audio scripts and social media creation. Experience with sensitive interviews is desirable.
Highly advanced understanding of the digital news environment is essential, and experience working in a cross-platform filing environment is desirable.
Strong networks, together with knowledge of major social, economic, political, and cultural issues. A high-level understanding of audience needs and interests in relation to news and current affairs.
