About the Role

In this role you will generate distinctive and original cross-platform news content for a Victorian and national audience. Stories that are relevant to a broad section of Australians and reflect the cultural, geographic and socio-economic diversity of the country. You will break stories and contribute original ideas and angles to editorial discussions while developing ideas using professional contacts and networks. You’ll be predominately assigned to radio reporting and will need to produce and voice tight, accurate stories under deadline pressure.

The role will also involve:

Writing scripts and stories that demonstrate well developed journalistic craft.
Covering live breaking news, predominantly for audio
Keeping current with production software, reporting tools and advances in production techniques.
Working closely and effectively with producers, editors and colleagues in the newsroom and around the network.
Assisting the Melbourne digital team with production tasks and projects, as required.

About You

We are seeking a cross-platform News Reporter with experience in covering breaking news and generating original stories in a daily news environment. You will have a strong understanding of Victorian issues and events as well as well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a team. In addition to a demonstrated and ongoing interest and passion in finding and telling stories that reflect Australia’s diversity.

You will also have:

A solid understanding of social media as a newsgathering and storytelling tool
Proficient radio reporting skills. Cross-platform media production skills, including proficiency in Core Media, Netia, ENPS and Stratus.
Understanding of content strategy and audience demands across platforms.
A proven ability to source and maintain contacts across the broader Australian community.
