About the Role
Have you seen the footage of the majestic whale sharks frolicking in azure blue waters. That will be your patch to cover if you secure this role in WA’s beautiful Gascoyne region. You would be based in the coastal community of Carnarvon, which is often referred to as the “food bowl” of Western Australia. You will have not one, but TWO world heritage areas to explore – Shark Bay World Heritage area to the south and the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area to the north. You can spend your weekends enjoying world class fishing, boating and diving, or hiking through rugged natural landscapes.
We are looking for a talented News Reporter to help our small, dedicated team to cover this area, to report on its diverse peoples, its cultures, businesses, lifestyles, quirks and customs; to tell the region’s unique stories to the state, the nation and the world. You will work closely with your colleague in the Carnarvon bureau as well the rest of the ABC Pilbara team based in Karratha.
The role will involve:
Creating engaging content across all platforms, including social, digital, TV and radio.
Finding original news and feature stories and cover breaking news.
Working independently, while also maintaining communication with the broader team.
Contributing to planning and commissioning processes to develop and distribute new content ideas to achieve strong reach and engagement with audiences.
Collaborating with colleagues, identifying and developing local content that can be shared with other content teams in R&L and across the ABC on multiple platforms.
About You
You are resourceful and have the ability to work independently. With your demonstrated skills and experience in journalism, you have a passion to source and create authentic content which represents the broad diversity of the Australian community.??
Proficient editorial skills including the ability to source and analyse information and exercise reliable judgement.
A strong grasp of political, social and local issues which affect the Gascoyne region.
A current and valid driver’s licence.
