REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

As a Freelance Writer, you will report directly to the editor(s) responsible for your editorial content and contract.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities outlined below include essential functions of the role. Depending on business needs, this role may combine some or all of the following duties. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

The ongoing responsibilities are as follows.

As a freelance writer with Endgame360, you are an independent contractor and are not considered an employee of Endgame360 or any of its brands.

You will communicate via email with Endgame360’s editorial staff to claim and deliver freelance articles within agreed-upon deadlines. (Our current cap is up to 40 articles per month for each freelancer who has a contract with us.)

You will draft articles in Word, Google Docs, or a similar format and ultimately submit within our CMS. Our in-house team will handle packaging and publishing the articles from there.

Before starting with any freelance work, you will have the chance to review our brief on our article expectations for freelancers. This will describe the basics of what we expect from you regarding quality, research, sourcing, and article format before submission. If your articles do not meet our expectations, we will provide you with appropriate opportunities to correct that work. Repeated or serious breaches of those expectations may result in the termination of our existing freelance contract with you.

Follow the quality guidelines for our site(s), establish knowledge of what a quality article on our site(s) is, and avoid issues of problematic headlines, weak attribution, poor grammar, and other potential issues that could cause readers to view our site’s work in a negative light.

Establish strong research skills, including linking and sourcing best practices, to show that your stories are based on more than one person’s opinion.

Consistently deliver high-quality, self-edited, and professional articles. Have the ability to self-edit articles.

Submit article pitches relevant to our site’s content and the types of content you normally cover for us. Submit articles you have committed to provide to us that were agreed upon between you and the Freelance Manager.

The editor(s) may also ask you to write a specific article or cover a specific topic.

QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated experience with journalistic and professional writing for other outlets. Experience with our topic areas and with writing for similar publishers is preferred.

The final candidate will have many of the following experiences, skills, and personal attributes.

Meet the criteria of being considered an independent contractor and be able to supply Endgame360 documentation showing evidence of compliance with applicable laws upon reasonable request. This may include evidence of business license, business card(s), and taxpayer identification number.

A background in and passion for writing about various topics relevant to the site you will be writing for, as well as a strong voice that makes your content engaging and unique.

A drive and demonstrated ability to reach audiences with engaging and well-researched headlines.

A working knowledge of SEO is preferred but not required.

A strong grasp of proper grammar and punctuation (e.g., Strunk & White’s The Elements of Style). Knowledge of AP Style is a plus.

The skill to recognize interesting news elements, come up with story ideas, and have these appeal to our readers.

Ability to submit work that follows our best practice guidelines and expectations, as laid out in the contract process.

Ability to submit work that garners positive reader attention and pageviews.

EDUCATION

A four-year college degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.

CONTACT INFORMATION

Endgame360 chooses to participate in a background check process for all individuals that are provided an offer of employment.

Disclaimer:

Endgame360 recently learned of a recruitment scam in which job seekers have been receiving illegitimate offers of employment on documents that contain our company’s logo as well as requests to set up interviews from people who claim to be hiring managers with Endgame360 or with one of our sites: MotorBiscuit, Sportscasting, and Showbiz Cheatsheet.

From our understanding, all illegitimate communications are coming from a false email address careers@motorbiscuit.us with individuals going by the name Ryan Purcell and Andrew Green. Neither of these individuals work for Endgame360.

Please note, Endgame360 is not involved with these fraudulent emails and is taking the situation seriously. As a company, we have reported the situation to the Federal Trade Commission and FBI. We have also taken other appropriate actions as well.

Moving forward, please know the following as it relates to recruiting/hiring with Endgame360:

All of our jobs are posted on our careers page

We always do at least one video face-to-face call prior to making any job offer. We never do our interviews via Telegram. We always use Zoom or Google Meets.

For the most part, our salary ranges are posted in the job postings.

You will never be asked for money from us.

We never do onboarding via email. We do our onboarding using a secure human resources software called Paylocity. Any request for direct deposit information would be as part of that onboarding event.

All of our team members are featured on the About Us page on our website.

Some tips for job seekers as it relates to this unfortunate scam:

Double-check the sender's email address. Does it match the company's website address?

Does the job offer letter or request to email have typos in it?

Do the benefits that are mentioned on the job offer letter match what the company advertises on its site?

Consider if the rate you are being offered is the rate that is in the actual job posting.

Did you submit an interest in this role? Does it seem the manager is reaching out to you randomly and making you an offer very quickly without much prior communication?

When in doubt for Endgame360, please message People Ops at hr@cheatsheet.com.

Report it! You can report it to: FTC, your State's Attorney General's Office, and the FBI Cyber Crime division.
