Award - Winning Weekly Seeks Community beat Reporter

New Posted 7 February 2023 | Tiburon, California | The Ark

The Ark, just minutes north of San Francisco in Tiburon, Calif., is looking for an enthusiastic self-starter for reporting news and writing feature stories on a wide range of topics, including local government, public safety, people, business and community happenings. We believe in high-impact, high-context, richly sourced hyperlocal community reporting that makes a difference. You'll be expected to develop sources, generate story ideas and break news while thinking critically and assertively challenging sources. Ideal candidates have a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, and/or have background as a news reporter for a college or professional news publication. You must have experience covering government boards and meetings. The position is full-time hourly with 100% coverage of medical, dental and vision insurance; retirement plan with employer match; paid sick days; nine paid holidays; and 15+ days paid vacation, which includes our annual Christmas-to-New Year's office closure. We have a hybrid work schedule, though you'll need to be available in the community to attend evening board meetings, respond quickly to breaking news and regularly report on site. Our downtown Tiburon Peninsula office is just steps from the bay in several directions. Send a resume, cover letter (optional) and clips to Executive Editor Kevin Hessel at jobs@thearknewspaper.com. At least one of your clips should include coverage of a board meeting and vote to take action. We are an extremely small operation that's now short-staffed so, if we are interested, we'll contact you as soon as possible. Please do not call. Out-of-area applications will not be considered unless you specify that you're able to relocate and can do so immediately; we cannot pay relocation expenses.
