Quick Take: Axios is a thriving, fast-growing media organization dedicated to providing trustworthy, award-winning news in an audience-first format. As we continue to build out our local operation, with reporting teams and newsletters in 30 cities, we are looking for an editor who can lead coverage in several of our East Coast markets.
Why it Matters: This editor will live in the state of Florida and will work with Local Reporters in Tampa Bay, Miami and potentially one other Axios Local market as well as senior newsroom leadership to guide Axios’ coverage of local news, connecting the dots between local, national, and global developments to make readers aware of the narratives shaping their lives in their local communities.
Go Deeper: We are looking for someone who cares deeply about the future of local news, is obsessed with innovative new ways to reimagine it, and skilled in execution to support this venture with the following responsibilities:
Oversee the production of daily local news coverage in select markets, specifically Axios Local’s newsletters
Work closely with Axios editorial leadership to adapt Axios’ “Smart Brevity” style to local news, shape how the Local product evolves, and develop synergy between local and national coverage
Edit the work of a group of local journalists
Manage several Local reporters
Curate local news coverage to write screens and stories in partnership with Local Reporters when needed
Help conceive larger data-driven and analytical stories that are relevant at the local level with connections to national stories of importance
Assist with research on important topics, events, and trends driving the conversation in select local markets
Stay abreast of analytics for all cities in the editing portfolio, and help conceive of and execute growth opportunities for both newsletters
