This Journalist Researcher (Level 5) apprenticeship is for people who are curious about the world and have a passion to tell the stories happening around them. For school leavers or those looking for a career change, if university is not for you this is your chance to get first class journalism training with the biggest broadcasting organisation in the world.
You’ll study and learn on the job while working towards the industry recognised level 5 NCTJ Diploma in Journalism and an apprenticeship qualification.

What will you be doing?
Work alongside BBC news and sports teams to develop your journalistic skills, creating and delivering quality content for TV, online, digital, and audio.
Get involved with all newsroom activities, such as sourcing and securing suitable guests or contributors, writing briefs for your team or shooting and editing films.
Find and create stories for diverse audiences, including coming up with ideas, carrying out in-depth research and assisting with interviews.
Learn from and work with experts in the field at the biggest broadcasting organisation in the world.
And you’ll study for your industry recognised NCTJ Diploma and your journalism apprenticeship, learning both on and off the job.
Where does the role lead to?
This scheme starts in September 2024 on a continuing contract.The apprenticeship will typically lead to a role as a Journalism Researcher at the BBC.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
To Be Eligible For An Apprenticeship, You Must
Be aged 18 or over when the apprenticeship starts in September 2024
Be legally allowed to work in Jersey full time
Have Maths and English GCSEs at 9-4/A-C or National 5s (Scotland) at A-C or equivalent
Do not hold or currently working towards the NCTJ Diploma
Have been resident in either the UK or EEA since September 2021 (Not applicable for individuals under the statuses within EP350 such as Homes for Ukraine).
The scheme is aimed at non-graduates. If you have a degree or the NCTJ diploma in Journalism and want to train as a Journalist at the BBC we recommend you apply to the Level 7 Journalist scheme instead.
Great Journalist Researcher Apprentices are those that are;
Intensely curious about people and about what is going on in the world
Brimming with creative ideas and imaginative ways to tell stories
Love producing content on different platforms, including social media
Have a passion for writing
Flexible, motivated and have an adaptable approach to the pace of work.
Don’t worry if you don’t have extensive experience. We’re looking for school-leavers or career changes who show potential rather than previous experience or training.
