BBC Shropshire is looking for a self-starting multimedia journalist reporter who can break original stories and report live, and who understands the demands of a multiplatform newsroom. We’re looking for someone who can make the important Shropshire stories come to life on radio, online and TV. This is a reporting role so a good broadcasting style, strong writing skills and an understanding of what makes a good story are important. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable working across all platforms.

Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities

Our journalists research, write and craft radio packages and do lives on air; they write stories for our news online pages and film for Midlands Today.

We want to recruit a journalist who can reflect the audiences we serve, and who understands what people in Shropshire want to hear, read and watch. You need to understand what matters to the different communties that make up the county – from big diverse towns like Telford, market towns like Ludlow, as well as the villages and hamlets.

You will be based in Shrewsbury and be part of our News Team, which is in Birmingham, while also working closely with our colleagues in the radio station.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

The ideal candidates will meet the following criteria:

1 Considerable experience of journalism

2 Ability to orginate stories, with strong writing skills and a good broadcast voice

3 Tenacious attitude to secure contacts/leads for creative storytelling

4 Ability to work well in the newsroom, with colleagues at other bases, in a team and under own intitiative.

5 A good understanding of Shropshire communities

Please note you will work split shifts, with one week 7am-3pm and one week 10am-6pm
