The BBC is looking for a Producer to work with its News team in Washington DC. We’re looking for a terrific journalist with a keen editorial mind as well as first rate TV, Digital and Radio production skills.
Main Responsibilities
You will work with the BBC’s Washington news team, providing high quality News content across the full range of the BBC’s TV, Radio and Digital platforms, bringing the biggest US stories to our international and UK audiences. You'll produce Individual Correspondents from the bureau and in the field as well as supporting other teams with editorial and production help. You'll be providing coverage of the daily news agenda, pre-planned events and, where necessary, deploying to breaking news stories. You will also be required to work on the DC news desk when needed.
Are you the right candidate?
Demonstrable experience of news production work - producing high quality journalism for TV, Digital and Radio from the field and the newsroom.
Quick thinking, resourcefulness and stamina – The ability to do six things at once when news breaks.
Excellent editorial judgement and a clear grasp of the key issues of the day as well as the ability to translate complex themes into accessible journalism
Experience of news field producing during breaking stories
Confidence at dealing with the demands of a busy newsroom, working under pressure, hitting tight deadlines and communicating effectively with colleagues.
A solid understanding of how to put together a TV or Radio package.
You’ll have an aptitude and enthusiasm to learn and extend your creative and technical skills as a producer (editing Radio packages/segments will be part of the role)
It’s vital you have the willingness and flexibility to travel, at short notice, for breaking news assignments or to work on breaking news in the bureau.
To be fully across new and constantly changing technology to feed material and go live from the field
Ability to adapt to changing audience habits and new formats and a willingness to undergo training to keep abreast of new technologies
Successful candidate must have the right to work in the US. No visas will be supplied. (An “I” visa is not acceptable for this role)
