Job purpose:

BBC Studios is seeking a social media editor to join the features team on BBC.com. They will be responsible for supporting multiplatform social strategy, ensuring our brand identity and editorial values are upheld on every account and with every post. The social media editor reports to the social media manager to ensure each account delivers on the agreed social strategy, maximises engaged reach with the account's target audiences delivers content of the highest creative quality and drives traffic to BBC features. This requires not only a solid background across all social platforms, but a strong command of written language, journalistic best practices, and engaging storytelling. Awareness of big news moments and cultural events and comfort not only in social app usage but with the analytics to make sense of success on those platforms.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

Collaborate across the features and video teams, bringing their work on travel, culture, science and business subjects to life across platforms.
Create for, post on, and engage with the leading social media platforms of the day.
Review and respond to analytics to understand performance and pivot accordingly.
Maintain a collaborative, team-player mentality, working toward collective goals alongside a very talented group of colleagues.
Provide planning and idea generation for social media content and campaigns with the guidance of the manager and other leadership.
Remain current in industry trends, digital developments and competitor activity and share new thinking.
Develop creative approaches to curating social media content, utilizing existing and new tools.
Produce copy that is optimised for social platforms and formats, in line with the account’s approved style guide and tone of voice.
Collaborate across editorial and video on captions, scripts, and other writing-forward social workstreams.
Contribute to overarching social editorial plan including creating/curating, scheduling and targeting content, ensuring that it supports both the overarching strategic priorities and meets audience needs.
Ensure editorial content supports brand values and is consistent with editorial style and tone.
Make use of social media platforms and tools to source, edit and curate social content.

Knowledge, skills, training and experience:

3+ years of professional experience in social media, digital media-specific experience a plus
You are a strong communicator and eager to collaborate across a global team of engaged journalists, editors, and video producers.
You have a passion for news and culture and like the challenge that comes with moving conversations forward.
You’re a creative thinker eager to package existing content in new ways and participate in brainstorms that will drive that content creation forward.
Open and receptive to feedback, eager to learn.
Ability to communicate creatively in an engaging manner, with accuracy, clarity and style creating content that stands up to journalistic rigor.
Writing experience is a plus, either professionally published, in school or in internships.
Understanding of what content types work on different platforms and ability to work nimbly to achieve success.
Experience with Microsoft Office, various social media posting tools, and analytic tools to evaluate performance.

Compensation

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $67,000 to $75,000. This range does not include other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and geographic location of the position.

This range is not inclusive of a flexible, hybrid working schedule and benefits including but not limited to 100 per cent BBCS-covered medical and dental insurance, vision, and 401k match.
