This is a great opportunity to jump ahead of the curve when it comes to multimedia news production. BBC Radio Derby is an award-winning station with a reputation for lively, personality-led programmes and a commitment to distinctive journalism. We’re also fully invested in making stories that work across platforms, and our work regularly appears on national BBC News programmes and the front page of the BBC News website. We’re ambitious about our news coverage, and want you to feel similarly. You’ll be finding original stories suitable for broadcast on the radio, making video versions for use on social media and TV, and developing the radio station’s profile on social media through the use of graphics, photos and text. Derbyshire and East Staffordshire are rich with a diverse mix of cultures and we want to tell stories from the heart of our communities, producing brilliant content with strong local journalism which is relevant to people’s lives. The Digital Journalist will help the station deliver on the BBC’s social media strategy, of attracting new local audiences to our platforms. They’ll create visually impressive content for outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, the BBC News website and regional television programmes. They’ll also turn that video content into bespoke pieces of radio which need to sound as good as they look. They’ll also help market the station on social media, helping deliver key messages about our output to bring in new listeners. And they’ll be confident when it comes to persuading other BBC outlets to share and repurpose our material.
