You will write everything from breaking news on proposed regulations to longer term enterprise stories that companies and consumers care about. You will be the tip of the spear on our biggest stories on legislation, tax, regulation, and policy. You will drive coverage on national trends and highlight key state and local developments.
What you will do:
Report and write news articles and breaking news alerts, often on deadline.
Cover news as it happens, live and in person, including at courthouses, state legislatures, and other strategic locations within your assigned region.
Pitch, develop and write analytical pieces and feature stories on complicated subjects like tax and legal developments, making them accessible to readers
Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.
Establish strategic relationships with sources, editors, news desk, etc.
Serve as a resource for other correspondents and Washington based reporters.
Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
You need to have:
Bachelor’s degree with coursework in English or journalism preferred or consistently exceeding performance expectations.
13 + years’ experience in journalism, including at least one year reporting on subject areas covered by assigned publications or consistently exceeding performance expectations.
Demonstrated knowledge of journalism principles and techniques.
Knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.
The ability to cover events live as they happen and meet with sources in person within the location being covered.
