Readers trust the brand for answers on anything from who and how to hire for a project, to how to save money on their investments. Therefore, we rely on our editors to help us create accessible, solidly researched budgeting and hiring guides for anything and everything related to the home.

Bob Vila is currently seeking a Freelance Editor to help ensure the team’s content is always complete, accurate, factually correct, and informative while remaining accessible to our audience. This role works directly with the Executive Editor of Performance.

Assignments

Our team’s mission is to provide the most accurate and thorough guides on hiring home professionals. Our library consists of an impressive collection of Cost Guides, Service Guides, Service Reviews and Comparisons, and more. This role is focused on Cost Guides, which typically range between 3,000 and 7,000 words.

Each assignment will involve 1) checking writers’ data against sources; 2) executing thorough line editing and sharp copywriting as needed; 3) ensuring that the content meets brand and content-specific style guidelines; and 4) optimizing according to SEO and affiliate best practices.

Above all, our priority is packaging the need-to-know info in a well-researched, easy-to-digest story. Editors are also responsible for collaborating with other Performance Editors and Copyeditors as needed regarding any content issues and questions.

Qualifications

At least 4 years editing experience, particularly for a digital publication.
Keen understanding of SEO best practices.
A portfolio showcasing previous work.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Strong multi-tasking skills, organization, and deadline management.
Interest in DIY or home improvement is a plus.

Compensation

Rates range $30 to $45 per hour, commensurate with your experience.
