Bridge Michigan, the state’s preeminent public policy online news site, seeks a curious, diligent breaking-news and general-assignment reporter to make our newsroom better. The ideal candidate has some experience and is eager to grow, learn and collaborate with our top-notch staff of Capitol, environmental, business, education, health and data journalists. We seek a reporter who can produce one breaking news story per day, assist other reporters with research, cover live events, respond to some trending topics, tackle news not covered by beat reporters and produce shorter versions of longer news stories. We are looking for a go-getter who has a hard work ethic and desire to be a star. Our team of great reporters and editors will bend over backwards to help you succeed. Bridge Michigan is a nonprofit news organization, which means we use the best parts of legacy media but are not beholden to tradition. We seek to lift diverse, often ignored voices and cover the state in an equitable, nonpartisan manner that begins each story willing to be surprised by where it takes us. As a nonprofit, we pride ourselves on being a newsroom that allows great ideas to flourish. We try to have a culture of ‘yes,’ and provide a nurturing environment that respects work-life balance and the trauma that sometimes comes with reporting. While there may be the occasional long day, we believe the best reporters have interests outside of journalism.
