We’re Looking for a Staff Reporter for Our Express Desk

The primary goal of Built In’s editorial team is to attract and retain readers to our network of sites by creating materials that instruct, inform and inspire. Candidate quality is Built In’s core differentiator over our competitors in the talent space, and the editorial team’s work strengthens our reach and reputation among technology professionals in the markets we serve. We’re currently in the process of expanding our international coverage, and we’re hiring a staff reporter to bolster those efforts.

As part of the editorial team’s Express Desk, this reporter will primarily focus on creating list-format articles that help international readers navigate their local tech ecosystems. Drawing on our internal research about the world’s leading tech hubs, you will identify the key characteristics of — and most notable companies in — each market and produce guides that bring the reader up to speed. (Examples: Top Tech Companies in Toronto to Know, Software Companies in Hyderabad and US Companies With UK Offices.) These articles can range from large lists that provide comprehensive overviews of a given tech ecosystem to shorter, quick-turn lists intended to be expanded upon with additional research over time. You will also support the Express Desk editor on other projects, as needed.

You will have experience producing compelling, clean and well-researched copy with a quick turnaround, and an ability to explain complex concepts for a broad audience. You’ll approach your work with great attention to detail, both from an editorial and an administrative perspective, and be willing to learn new skills and take on new projects as our team’s needs evolve. You will also be curious about audience analytics and emerging best practices in search engine optimization, and about how we can improve on our existing strategy to reach new audiences in international markets.

How You’ll Contribute

Research and write articles about leading tech companies across a wide range of international technology hubs.
Collaborate with editors and SEO to ensure published articles are highly polished and primed for success from a search perspective.
Support other members of the Express Desk in producing news coverage and story updates, and take on special projects as needed.

What You Need

Exceptional writing skills and 1-2 years of professional research and writing experience, preferably in a journalistic capacity.
An interest in startups, emerging technologies and tech industry trends.
A knack for breaking down complex, nuanced concepts and making them approachable.
An eye for detail and a collaborative mindset.
An ability to learn new workflows and processes quickly.
Experience with, or interest in, search engine optimization and performance analytics.
