The Capital Journal in Pierre, South Dakota, is seeking two multi-beat reporters that can cover both local news and sports. That’s right. We’re looking for two reporters that can cover anything from a Friday night football game to a city commission meeting, to writing features and enterprise stories. And we’re willing to pay for that kind of flexibility and hustle.
These two reporters will work side-by-side with our editor who will also be covering and writing local news. We’re a two-day-a-week print newspaper and seven-day digital publication on capjournal.com. Our coverage keeps our community informed and connected — and has won many awards along the way. Our newsroom focuses on community reporting, with coverage centered on local issues, news, and sports.
We’re looking for experienced reporters who are currently in a reporter role at a newspaper or have very recent experience. A bachelor's degree in journalism is preferred. Experience with multimedia reporting is required. Candidates must submit writing samples with their resumes for consideration.
Pierre is a great city to live in, the Capital Journal is a great newspaper and we have a dedicated, tenured staff. Our work environment is casual and you’ll be a part of a hard-working team. The expected salary is $45,000. Full benefits are available, along with relocation assistance.
If you want to be paid well and work hard for it, as well as enjoy a great quality of life, please send your resume and writing samples soon in an email to Publisher Jeffrey Hartley at jeffrey.hartley@capjournal.com.
