California Oil and Gas Reporter

Capital & Main, an award-winning state and national investigative news publication, is seeking a reporter to produce investigative reporting on California's oil and gas industry, and its influence on climate and environmental policy. This is a new beat, and will focus on examining the political power of the fossil fuel industry in one of the country’s most important oil-and-gas-producing states. Our coverage will explore how the industry may be exerting pressure on public policy and exacerbating climate change, to the detriment of the environment and public health.

We are looking for an experienced investigative reporter with good sources in Sacramento as well as at the regional and local level. The reporter will work with Capital & Main’s Los Angeles-based editorial staff.

This contract will initially be on a freelance consultant basis but could develop into a part-time or full-time staff position. Pay for this position will be competitive. Women and people of color strongly encouraged to apply. Residence in California strongly preferred.
