Multimedia Journalist

New Posted 1 August 2023 | Springfield, Illinois | Capitol News Illinois

Capitol News Illinois, a nonprofit and nonpartisan news organization operated by the Illinois Press Foundation, covers state government daily from the Capitol in Springfield, Illinois.

With a significant grant from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation and a financial/operational partnership with the Illinois Broadcasters Association and its Foundation, Capitol News Illinois is adding multimedia (video and audio) journalism operations in 2023.

We will be hiring as many as 3 MMJs with an aim to grow the program in 2024 and beyond.

EXPECTATIONS:
Multimedia Journalists will produce, report, shoot, write, voice, edit and feed news production content. An emphasis will be placed on providing scripts and clips to broadcast outlets wishing to create their own reports. Ready-to-air pieces will also be produced.

CNI’s broadcast content will be distributed to all TV and radio outlets, as well as to all newspapers in Illinois. The broadcast journalism team at CNI will collaborate and coordinate coverage with the existing print reporting team. We anticipate our broadcast operations to be as successful as our print coverage, which in fewer than 5 years has been published nearly 90,000 times in 460 daily and nondaily newspapers statewide with a combined circulation of more than 2 million.

EXPERIENCE:
Prior experience of broadcast and/or multimedia reporting is required. Previous coverage of Illinois state government is preferred but not required.

Capitol News Illinois is committed to diversity and especially encourages members of underrepresented communities to apply, including women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and people with disabilities.

Capitol News Illinois is operated by the Illinois Press Foundation. We offer a competitive salary and benefits. If you're interested, please provide a resume, a cover letter that outlines how you would approach the job, and at least 5 examples of your work.
