Compensation Range: $20 - 22 per hour

We are seeking a detail-oriented Editorial Assistant as a temporary hire to support our client's skilled Editorial team!

As an Editorial Assistant, you will work closely with brand partners and editorial, global licensing, and creative operations teams, to provide support with reviewing and updating our client's backlist.

Under the supervision of a Senior Editor, you will manage backlist updates across the extensive backlist. This includes identifying backlist titles that are in need of updated language and/or images in order to conform with modern standards of appropriateness and cultural sensitivity, and to ensure facts are up to date and relevant. You will help to prioritize the order of these updates, identify, hire and manage sensitivity readers and fact-checkers to provide necessary content revisions, and oversee the update process through final proofs. You may also provide general editorial support to the kid's books team as needed.

This hybrid position will be based out of Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities:

Partner with the visual identity team to identify and execute any necessary updates to images and graphics.
Review the client's backlist to identify books that need updating.
Work with the editorial team to build out an updated schedule that prioritizes high-impact titles and those in most immediate need of revision.
Identify, hire and manage sensitivity reviewers, fact-checkers, and writers as needed to make the necessary updates.
Review updated manuscripts and provide editorial feedback.
Review layouts and provide editorial feedback as needed to ready the revision for production.
Support editorial team with ad hoc needs including manuscript or layout review, title research, brainstorming, etc.
Support staff with basic office administrative needs.

Qualifications:

Experience level: Entry Level
Education: Bachelors
Proficiency in Office suite.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize in a high-volume environment.
Communication skills, both verbal & written.
Interpersonal skills, and ability to multi-task successfully.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Interest in children's publishing.
