The Center for Journalism and Liberty at the Open Markets Institute in Washington seeks a reporter/researcher to cover the intersection of business and public policy in shaping today’s information environment. The ideal candidate will combine strong writing, reporting, and research skills with deep interest in and curiosity about political economy and the future of free speech and democracy. This position is an opportunity for an independent and collaborative individual to build subject area expertise and publish groundbreaking work in both popular and specialized journals. Occasionally this person may write on a broader array of Open Markets topics essential to our mission. In the past, our researchers and writers have published op-eds and articles in The New York Times, Harper’s, Foreign Affair, Foreign Policy, Vox, The New Republic, The Atlantic, the Washington Monthly, and numerous other outlets. Open Markets works closely with high-level policymakers around the world and has pioneered understanding of the dangers posed by concentrated economic power. Former employees of Open Markets have gone on to work at the highest levels of government, journalism, and academia.
Ideal candidate: A versatile journalist with a real interest in covering business, law and media, with an eye toward diversity, inclusion and equity. Open Markets will also consider candidates with legal, academic, and business backgrounds that directly relate to writing about political economics of various business areas, including journalism and media.
