To work across Channel 4 News digital platforms, focusing on delivery of high impact and news-making journalism. To produce high-quality video journalism for our longer-form series and original productions, as well as high-quality and creative short-form news storytelling across digital platforms.

To oversee production of and produce content and to secure maximum impact for Channel 4 News’ digital and television output across platforms. This role will likely include shift work, weekend work and some travel.

Key Responsibilities

Work across Channel 4 News digital platforms – with a focus on producing high-quality video journalism for our ‘series’ output, and longer-form content
Produce social media output for all platforms and our website; including short-form news, explainers, and short-documentary
Contribute to the running of the digital news desk as Online News Editor and working on breaking news
Oversee individual and ongoing projects, including on-the-day specials, series episodes and standalone films
To pitch distinctive, exclusive stories that meet the high editorial standards of Channel 4 News, aimed at a digital-first audience and for broadcast on TV
Provide imaginative treatments for complex stories and present complex ideas simply and in a compelling manner
To research, script, storyboard and produce journalistically robust and technically outstanding productions
To share best-practice across the newsrooms of how to find and tell complex stories across our video platforms
Use distinctive judgement about digital storytelling, recognizing unique qualities of video platforms, to deliver bespoke content targeted at our audiences across outputs
Manage small productions, including collaborating with and leading small teams, to deliver projects
Ensure stories are accurate and comply with the law and relevant regulations
Work in accordance with ITN guidelines on health and safety in the office and in the field
Work on the output, news-desk or other programme teams if required, following training
Occasionally work in the field, at home and abroad, during breaking news
Occasional work with independent reporters or companies
Play an authoritative role in team editorial meetings presenting ideas in a persuasive manner

Key Requirements

An exceptional video journalist and digital native who works to the highest editorial standards
A proven track record of producing high-impact visual stories across a variety of media
A journalist with 5+ years production experience dealing with the highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail around often complex and controversial material
Required: high-level experience Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop / Desired: experience of After Effects
Understanding and knowledge of social media and experience working across a wide variety of platforms
Required: 3+ years camera-operator experience – in studio and on location / Desired: technical proficiency in lighting, drone operation and experience with gimbals
Strong team-working skills
Strong digital news judgement – with a knowledge of what will play well on social and how to engage and retain an audience
High quality news judgement, editorial creativity, and imagination
Ability to take a lead on substantial digital projects, innovating in formats that cross over TV and digital media
Ability to work autonomously and under own initiative
Flair for expressing stories visually and an excellent writing ability for both long and short-form videos
Highly developed understanding of complex legal situations and understanding of ITN Legal Compliance procedures
Understanding of Channel 4 News output and focus
Good interpersonal skills, team player with personal authority and the ability to manage a group of people
Calm under pressure with the ability to adapt and be flexible in task and role
Ability to work to strict deadlines in a time-pressured environment
Act with responsibility and common sense in the field and office, in compliance with ITN’s Health and Safety Policies
