The Ocean Editor is responsible for writing and commissioning high-quality editorial content on the environmental and climate-related challenges facing the global ocean. The Editor will be responsible for conceiving and leading editorial projects to produce wide-ranging and topical coverage. The Ocean Editor will be proactive, highly organised, self-motivated, and dedicated to developing their network of contacts and journalists. The Ocean Editor should possess a deep understanding of global ocean affairs, and a commitment to accuracy, integrity and constructive global dialogue.

About us

China Dialogue Trust publishes high-quality information and promotes communication on the environment and climate change in multiple languages. We aim to foster a common purpose across political, ideological and cultural boundaries by publishing independent and accurate information on environmental and climate issues and by facilitating tolerant and constructive dialogue.
Main responsibilities
Editorial:

● Develop and lead editorial projects to deliver compelling ocean journalism;
● Plan, commission and edit high-quality articles on ocean issues, environmental protection and climate change;
● Research and write compelling articles, ensuring accuracy and relevance;
● Liaise with China Dialogue Trust editorial teams;
● Coordinate translation of content and editing translated content.
Network-building:

● Cultivate strong working relationships with both experienced and emerging journalists;
● Build and maintain a relevant network of experts and potential contributors;
● Coordinate with our global team of editors to ensure content is aligned with our organisational goals and editorial strategy;
● Attend relevant events and conferences to stay informed on developments in ocean affairs and ensure up-to-date and engaging content;
● Participate in and develop content for workshops and training sessions organised by China Dialogue Trust and partner organisations, aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of journalists, policymakers and other stakeholders.
Communications and Marketing:

● Develop syndication and content-sharing relationships with regional and vernacular media;
● Promote content via social media and other publishing platforms.
Essential experience, knowledge and skills

● An understanding of, and commitment to, the work and values of the China Dialogue Trust;
● Considerable work experience in journalism;
● Familiar with ocean issues, environmental protection and climate change;
● Ability to identify and develop editorial ideas, conduct interviews, write articles, and commission journalists;
● Ability to manage complex editorial projects and meet competing deadlines;
● Strong English language skills.
