Located on Gadigal and Bidjigal land (Randwick, NSW), Black Dog Institute is the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the full lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. Through effective communications, we lead Australia’s population health response to suicide prevention and champion the ongoing conversation of mental health in our society.

The Role
The purpose of this role is to drive the media and public relations (PR) strategy and annual plan while developing and collaborating on new opportunities within the media and PR landscape to enrich and protect the reputation of Black Dog Institute and maintain its Share of Voice.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and lead the media and public relations strategies, including identifying, leveraging, and leading proactive and reactive media relations for consumer and general media opportunities to achieve KPIs.
Manage the media spokesperson capacity-building strategy, including media training, to enable researchers and other subject matter experts to successfully engage with media.
Develop and implement the organisation’s impact story telling strategy and plans in collaboration with the Digital Marketing Manager, and in consultation with the Funding and Partnership directorate, develop and implement the organisation’s impact story telling strategy and plans.
Work with the Marketing and Communications team and other BDI departments to synthesise and promote key messages, through both online and traditional media, advising on and preparing media messages, and identifying story opportunities and support materials for consumer and general audiences.
Planning, reporting and managing to key milestones across the media and storytelling portfolio including managing suppliers (PR agencies, media reporting, media contacts, media training, video suppliers) against budgets and agreed KPIs.
Collaborating with the Director, Marketing and Communications and Chief Scientist, coordinate messaging for issues management including the crisis management policy, advice to senior leaders and assist with careful positioning of BDI on relevant issues.
