Vanderbilt’s Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries are undergoing an exciting transformation as we re-envision the future of library services at the university. Through radical collaboration we aim to deepen student and faculty engagement with the libraries, equip students for lifelong information proficiency, increase faculty research impact, create more opportunities for interdisciplinary experimentation, and optimize access to collections and resources, including marginalized and hidden histories and cultures.

To help increase the visibility and impact of the libraries, we are seeking a team member who possesses strong writing and editorial skills and is adept at social media. This person will be responsible for not only writing compelling content that advances the libraries’ mission, but also strategically sharing that content across digital channels to maximize engagement with our core audiences. An ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with others, a desire to learn and grow professionally, and a willingness to take initiative and work independently are all key traits for success in this role.

Duties And Responsibilities

Work in collaboration with library leadership and campus partners to write high-impact stories, news releases and other content that advance the libraries’ priorities and effectively engage external audiences.
Work in collaboration with library leadership and staff to write internal announcements and messaging that reinforce a culture of belonging and highlight staff contributions to the libraries’ success.
Manage and grow the libraries’ social media presence by maintaining a content calendar and posting regularly across channels.
Track performance of stories and social media posts to inform content decisions.
Regularly monitor Strategic Communications’ email inbox and help-ticket dashboard to field incoming requests and respond appropriately.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the libraries’ communications efforts.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is required.
A degree in communications or journalism is preferred.
At least 2–5 years of experience in communications, public affairs, journalism or related field are required.
Strong writing and communication skills are required.
Experience with digital communications and social media platforms is required.
Good time-management skills are required.
An ability to collaborate effectively with others is required.
Experience working for or with an institution of higher education is preferred.
