Working out of our New York office, the Editor, Transportation and Travel News manages content creation and curation across the brand’s digital platforms, with a core focus on all things related to airlines, airports, train travel, and cruises, while also overseeing points & miles coverage. The editor plays a key role in guiding and growing the brand’s transportation and news strategy, in consultation with the Digital Director, focusing on service journalism that travelers can use, while helping grow the brand’s digital presence. Day-to-day responsibilities include assigning and editing copy, writing quick-turnaround news and trend pieces, writing display (headlines, captions, etc.), and SEO. This role reports to the Digital Director.

Guide CNT’s digital transportation and travel news content strategy, in particular with regards to airports and air travel, train travel, and road trips.

Assign, write, and edit daily digital content with a focus on U.S. travel news, collaborating with CNT market leads in the U.K., Spain, India, and the Middle East on news content planning and sharing where relevant.

Lead coverage of cruise content on digital, including assigning and producing reviews and developing and growing columns and franchises.

Supervise points and miles coverage, liaising with CNT commerce editors where needed.

Develop a robust freelance network of travel and transportation writers and maintain key industry relationships (travel specialists, industry experts, and publicists) on pitches and industry news.

Represent the brand in the media and travel marketplace.

Play a key editorial role on at least one of CNT’s global tentpole franchises such as Hot List and Best Places to Go, working alongside stakeholders from editorial, audience development, product, and sales.

Lead 1-2 beat-led editorial packages per year with a mind to growing the brand’s digital presence.

Regularly update both homepage and section content on site.

Support Digital Director on sponsored editorial packages from brainstorming to deployment.

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

Candidate must have a deep understanding of the transportation sector, both domestically and globally, in particular airports and airlines. A working knowledge of the cruise industry, rail travel, the car rental market, and loyalty programs is highly welcome

6+ years of digital editorial experience

Knowledge of latest/emerging digital tools and platforms

A firm understanding of analytics and experience using data to guide content strategy

Experience managing large group of contributors

A network of key industry relationships

CMS skills

SEO skills

The expected base salary range for this position is from $70,000 - $90,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
