Freelance Data Writer and Researcher

ConsumerAffairs is looking for freelance researchers and data writers to create data-driven articles on a variety of topics. The freelancer will be expected to research assigned topics and properly source credible references. The ideal candidate will have proven experience finding, analyzing, and interpreting data sets, and using that information to simplify complex topics that add context to the industry at large. Success in this role requires extensive research/competitor analysis abilities, knowledge of SEO, and writing skills.

ConsumerAffairs prefers to build long-term relationships with freelancers who can commit to delivering high-quality work consistently. For each article, the freelancer will receive a topic outline and content style guidelines to follow. This is a remote role open to U.S.-based candidates.

Requirements

Duties:

Research facts, figures, insights, and trends for a wide range of topics, including but not limited to, home, solar, auto, and insurance
Present findings in a clear, concise manner, using bullet points, subheadings, and other contextual elements to discuss the topic
Suggest ways to display the information more clearly (tables, graphics, charts, etc)
Perform in-depth competitor analysis to ensure articles are the most comprehensive and up-to-date resource on the web
Turn in clean work that is publish-ready, based on detailed project outlines and content style guidelines

Qualifications:

Required: The ability to find and analyze large amounts of first-hand data for trends and key takeaways using reporting databases, recent studies, publications, and press releases. For example, extracting data tables from the U.S. Census, NHTSA, and the FBI
Experience writing comprehensive long-form content that is clear, concise, and scannable
Availability to commit at least 20 hours per week to this role
Preferred: Academic research experience and/or journal article writing and editing
Preferred: Knowledge of AP style writing
