Position Summary

The Copy Editor will own the flawless execution of copy across all TaxAct businesses (Consumer, Small Business, and Professional). This pivotal role will work with our in-house creative team to ensure that all marketing content adheres to TaxAct guidelines, both in style, grammar, and in compliance with our highly regulated industry. You will review and revise copy during the approval workflow as well as pick up and edit previously used copy to make it ready for re-use. As a part of the Program Management team, you will support the creative team both in day-to-day review of content and in compilation and communication of changing requirements of the business. This is a highly collaborative role where a mix of soft and technical skills is required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Working with the creative team, drive the flawless execution of marketing copy in a variety of formats: site, social, email, display, digital
Review and revise marketing content to ensure accuracy of information and mechanics of writing, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax
Maintain history of all copy revisions throughout entire project cycle
Ensure the correct use of trademark symbols according to legal guidelines
Ensure correct tone, voice, clarity, flow, and structure of content
Partner with Director and Associate Director of Creative to maintain the TaxAct Style Guide
Revision of previously used marketing campaign content – to make ready for reuse
Partner with legal department to create and maintain library resources, stay up to date with changing industry regulations and their impact to our marketing messaging, and gain approval and consensus on the variety of claims made by the marketing team
Work with Program Management team to optimize and document department copy processes

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or related field

4+ Years proven work experience as a Copy Editor or similar role
Exceptional understanding of the English Language, including:
Strong grasp of sentence structure, grammar rules, and proper punctuation
The ability to adhere to a style guide
The ability to edit for context and understanding
Strong understanding of marketing and branding principles
Self-motivated and deadline driven with strong time management skills
Highly organized with extreme attention to detail
Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects at various levels of completion
Resourceful and adaptable
Open and responsive to feedback
Collaborative team player with a servant-leader attitude
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Adobe Workfront or Smartsheet experience preferred
Miro, Figma, or SharePoint experience a plus
