We are looking for an Editorial/Opinion Sr. Editor to reimagine our approach from top-to-bottom, building on our storied history of serving as a leading voice of the South. We need a fluid and succinct writer who enjoys arguing civilly - and can present our work in new and innovative ways, such as audio, video and podcasts and potentially live events. We're looking for a strategic thinker who can guide and create meaningful and memorable work - a proven editor who can highlight solutions and produce high-quality opinion journalism that makes a difference in our communities.
The Editorial/Opinion Sr. Editor Will
produce and oversee work that provides perspective, authority, insight and a vision for a better Atlanta and a better South.
produce and oversee work that holds public officials accountable and rights "wrongs" while offering solutions and celebrating what's working throughout Atlanta, Georgia and the South.
build a community of new and established writers from across the South - and showcase and elevate their voice.
develop new editorial forms and publishing techniques.
present complex topics in a clear and accessible way.
conceive ideas and publish the sharpest possible views.
embody a collaborative spirit that builds strong partnerships and relationships across our communities.
imagine ways to invite the community to help us shape our opinion coverage.
develop sources and expertise in a variety of subject areas.
create an engaging forum for intelligent and meaningful commentary.
Key Responsibilities Include
guiding the transformation of our Opinion/Editorial pages in a way that captures the excitement and challenges that come with living in one of the most energetic and innovative cities in the nation.
selecting topics for editorials, developing arguments and writing persuasive opinion pieces.
creating content for digital platforms, including video, audio and podcasts.
arranging and participating in editorial board meetings.
crafting persuasive arguments built around detailed reporting.
evolving as subjects and strategies change.
Key Skills Include
a high level of proficiency in writing, independent research and reporting.
the ability to work under deadline pressure.
the ability to balance deadline writing and in-depth projects.
Key Qualifications Include
With a BA/BS, need to have 8+ years of related experience with at least 1 year experience in management or lead role (may have a Master's with 6+ years of experience or Ph.D. with 3+ year of experience or 12 years of total relevant experience)
a demonstrated track record of developing new editorial forms and publishing techniques.
at least two years' experience managing opinion/editorial content preferred
a demonstrated track record with digital media.
strong presentation and writing skills.
a clear understanding of reader research and a commitment to meeting our readers' interests.
an ability to handle other assignments as needed, showing flexibility and adaptability.

Ensuring that our opinion content is heavily focused on local issues that inform, surprise and delight our readers.
Collaborating with others across the newsroom to ensure that we present readers with a good mix of lively and engaging topics.
Selecting nationally syndicated columnists letters to the editor.
Soliciting community members to produce meaningful and engaging op-ed pieces that reflect the diversity of our communities.
Working closely with our Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist.
