Crain’s Cleveland Business, the premier source of business news in Northeast Ohio, is looking for an experienced reporter to cover the health care industry and the nonprofit sector in the Cleveland and Akron area.
In this role, you will report and write breaking-news stories on numerous health care and nonprofit topics, often on tight deadlines. You will file copy that is clean and accurate and can be published online quickly with minimal editing. Opportunities also exist for enterprise reporting and collaborating on stories with colleagues.
You can expect to:
Work with editors to source, report and write breaking news and enterprise stories for Crain’s multiple platforms
Cover breaking news in the field and through independent reporting; maintain strong, foundational understanding of important topics and players in the local business community
Contribute daily news items for morning and afternoon newsletters
Use analytics tools such as Chartbeat and Metrics for News to identify how stories are performing; work with editors on best SEO practices
Help plan content for, and participate in, Crain events and programming
Shoot photos and video as needed
Participation in beat-related Crain events and programming is expected.
Basic Qualifications and Preferences
We seek an aggressive reporter who will dig deep to develop the robust sources necessary to cover these two beats. The editors are looking for a self-starter who can cultivate sources, develop their own story ideas, and write authoritatively on a wide range of subjects. A collaborative attitude, ability to multitask and fluency with social media and basic analytics are a must.
The ideal candidate will have an audience-first mindset and an ability to identify and report stories about health care and nonprofit organizations and the people who run them.
