Sports Writer / Assistant Sports Editor

Our award-winning sports department is looking for someone who wants to learn and be coached on their sports-writing journey. We have an opening for an assistant sports editor for our five-day, Tuesday through Saturday, daily. The position would carry the sports editor title for two sister weekly papers, The Dexter Statesman and The Prospect-News in Doniphan. Both papers are in neighboring counties. Our newspapers cover 15 high schools and Three Rivers College, a junior college with a rich men’s and women’s basketball tradition. We are looking for someone who will engage our readers with feature stories and columns, and game coverage that doesn’t rely on play-by-play. Our assistant sports editor will also take his or her own photographs, help with pagination, and help uncover hidden talent to use as stringers.
