We are looking for a Community Reporter to join us at the Daily Mirror. We want people who care about their local communities and other communities around the UK who want to make a difference and have a positive impact.
The purpose of the role is to find and report on the stories, issues and talking points that matter to specific communities and groups of people in and around this location, in a way which ensures as many people as possible discover, engage with and respond to our work.
We are especially keen to hear from people who believe they can help make our newsrooms more representative of the diverse communities we serve.
This role is initially a 12 month fixed-term contract.
This role is a hub based position from our London Canary Wharf office, however due to the nature of the role you will be travelling around the country trying to find those great stories. Driving licence would be essential.
Job Description
What will the role involve?
You will write and develop stories, with great pictures and engaging video. You will find and tell stories about specific communities and groups across the UK which engage as many readers as possible, and are of interest to those groups, build a presence online, on social media and in real life to share stories with local communities once published, and engage with readers about those stories.
You will bring in exclusive stories that set us apart from our rivals, all while ensuring that every piece of content is researched and published in accordance with the Editor’s Code of practice.
Qualifications
Who are we looking for?
An experienced journalist with in-depth knowledge of media law, you have a strong track record of delivering a wide range of engaging human interest and hard hitting news stories at a national or major regional title while understanding what works for a digital audience.
You have first rate editing, writing and subbing skills, relish the test of working under pressure and to tight deadlines. You’re social media savvy with current SEO knowledge and ideally you're familiar with newsroom analytics and content management systems. You’re flexible, inquisitive and are on the pulse of what makes a great story!
