ASCO Daily News, a scientific oncology news publication from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), is seeking freelance medical journalists with experience writing oncology news for a clinician audience. This is contractor opportunity, not a full- or part-time position.
ASCO Daily News provides high-quality, unbiased research summaries and oncology news to ASCO members and oncology health care providers. You’ll write news articles summarizing and contextualizing oncology meeting presentations, manuscripts from peer-reviewed oncology journals, scientific features, and other content as assigned.
Successful candidates will meet the following requirements:
Minimum of 5 years as a medical journalist
Experience writing about oncology for a clinician audience (not a lay audience)
Experience and comfortability with interviewing physician scientists via phone or video call
Experience analyzing figures and tables to surface salient data points for readers
Experience covering medical conferences
Ability and availability to work weekends when needed for oncology conference coverage
Ability and availability to travel to oncology conferences, if needed
Excellent research and communication skills
Proven ability to meet deadlines
