General Assignment Reporter

Our goal is to serve the communities we cover by informing our readers about important local events, while connecting the business community with our audience. We will serve as the media pillar in Southern Alabama for the counties of Mobile, Washington, and Clarke..

The three newspapers of Clarke County Alabama are looking for individuals of all experience levels to join a news team that has recently merged with the newspapers from Washington County and Mobile County to form the largest media footprint in Southern Alabama.

You could write for The Call News (Citronelle), The Washington County News (Chathom), The South Alabamian (Jackson), The Clarke County Democrat (Grove Hill), and The Thomasville Times (Thomasville). You'll cover city council meetings, school boards, municipal events, sports contests and more. We have a variety of openings and the need is very broad so whether you're seeking a full time job with benefits, a part time postion for some extra cash, or just occasional work as a freelance writer or photographer please send us an email and let's get together.

Duties may vary based on full-time or part:
- Conduct research and gather information for news stories
- Attend events, press conferences, and interviews to gather information and conduct interviews with sources
- Write and edit news articles, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to journalistic standards
- Collaborate with editors and other reporters to develop story ideas and angles
- Copyedit and proofread articles for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style
- Fact-check information and verify sources
- Stay up-to-date with current events and trends in order to pitch relevant story ideas
- Utilize social media platforms to promote news articles and engage with audience
- Manage social media accounts to share news updates and interact with followers

Requirements:
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Excellent research skills and ability to gather information from various sources
- Knowledge of AP Stylebook and other journalistic guidelines helpful
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and deliver accurate news stories in a timely manner
- Proficiency in social media platforms for news promotion and engagement
- Strong communication skills and ability to conduct interviews with sources effectively
- Attention to detail and commitment to factual accuracy
