Insurance Insider is looking for a Data Journalist to join its growing data and visual journalism team in London.

Insurance Insider is focused on providing unrivalled market intelligence and real-time insight to senior professionals in the insurance sector. Our award-winning journalists have deep knowledge of a complex market that is regularly impacted by phenomena as diverse as global warfare, cyberterrorism and climate change.

About The Role

This role will support our Senior Data Journalist in expanding the scope of the group’s data-focused products, and in making news coverage and analysis across our titles Insurance Insider, Trading Risk and Inside P&C even richer through data visualisation.

In this role, the Data Journalist will

assist with the day-to-day management of Insurance Insider’s online data products and the underlying structured datasets
source, clean and analyse data to produce original stories and create compelling visualisations
work with other reporters to prepare relevant data and visualisations for their stories
pitch new ideas for data-led work to support our existing areas of coverage

The role is suitable for recent graduates who are ambitious and willing to learn, but we will also consider applicants with existing professional data journalism experience.

About The Candidate

A successful candidate will

be comfortable performing basic analysis of quantitative data, as well as communicating the results clearly and succinctly in writing
possess strong knowledge of spreadsheet-editing tools such as Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
have demonstrable experience of using data visualisation to tell effective stories
be capable of operating at speed in an environment where accuracy is essential
have a desire to work as part of a cohesive team focused on delivering first-class journalism

Direct experience of writing about insurance is not expected; an understanding of basic financial concepts and metrics is preferred, but not essential.
