I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

The Associate Photo Editor hands both photo research and photo shoots. The Associate Photo Editor conducts photo research for Covers, Features and Front of Book/Back of Book Stories through a variety of sources—including stock agencies, paparazzi, photographers, local newspapers, story subjects, our newsfeed and social media-covering all topics—celebrity, news, human interest, royals and crime.

Additionally, the Associate Photo Editor produces a variety of photo shoots with both celebrities and “real people.”

Responsibilities include:

concepting the visual look of the shoot based on the story we’re telling
coming up with a list of appropriate photographers
sourcing location
working with talent rep to book hair/makeup/stylist
booking catering and set design as needed
creating call sheet
sticking to provided budget and creating a detailed shoot estimate
editing the “film” once it comes in and inputting proper metadata

The Associate Photo Editor must be able to work on all the above in an extraordinarily fast-paced environment, be able to handle many stories at once and have exceptional organization skills.

40% - Produce a variety of photo shoots with both celebrities and “real people.”

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in photography/photojournalism or a related field is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a photo department

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Possess an interest and knowledge of photography and a keen eye for photo selection
Must be a problem solver! Quick thinking and resourceful; be able to work autonomously with the capability to prioritize multiple projects with fast turn-around times
Knowledge of photo agencies and pricing structures as well as licensing terms
Knowledge of all aspects of shoot production as outlined above
Knowledge of and interest in pop/celebrity culture and other topics covered in People

Pay Range
Salary: $52000 - $65000
