About the role
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications Manager will support daily external communications efforts of WSJ. Magazine and live journalism across Dow Jones newsrooms - including The Wall Street Journal, Barron's and MarketWatch. As part of the Dow Jones Corporate Communications team, you will also foster and further the development of long-term communications strategies for key business units, elevating the integrity and quality of Dow Jones products.
This position is responsible for ensuring the company's business strategy and corporate priorities are consistently amplified throughout all Dow Jones corporate communications. The ideal candidate will have media relations experience - particularly in the magazine and entertainment industry - an extensive knowledge of the ever-evolving media landscape and a passion for informing audiences in strategic, effective and authentic ways.
You Will:
Develop, implement and oversee the execution of successful PR strategies that drive awareness of Dow Jones products and services, primarily WSJ. Magazine and live journalism/events across the Wall Street Journal, Barron's and MarketWatch
Create compelling storylines to pitch to external audiences and media outlets
Draft press releases, internal communications and other materials to amplify achievements across the business, product launches, partnership announcements and more
Handle press inquiries and requests for interviews promptly
Track and record all external placements and comprise regular media reports
Develop working relationships with key media contacts
Develop effective briefing materials for Dow Jones executives including talking points and FAQs for interviews and town halls
Mentor to publicists working across Dow Jones's newsrooms
You Have:
5+ years working experience in media relations or corporate communications in a global, mutli-faceted organization
Experience collaborating and working with multiple stakeholders, including senior executives
Strong understanding of messaging and reputation management
Trustworthy and credible; excellent sense of judgment
Working relationships with important contacts across the media industry
Experience working in magazine, events or the entertainment industry.
Experience managing a team
Experience with reputation management
Familiarity with Muck Rack, TVEyes and other media monitoring systems
Experience developing and executing social media strategies
Bachelor's Degree in Communications or related field
