Mining Reporter, E&E News

New Posted 24 November 2022 | Arlington, VA | E&E News (by POLITICO)

POLITICO’s E&E News is looking for an ambitious reporter to bring creativity and big-picture thinking to a beat that’s critical to the U.S. and global economy: mining. This job is ripe for a go-getter who sees the connections between business, the environment, and policy and politics. The gig spans mining old and new — from coverage of the coal industry to the race to dig up minerals to feed the electric vehicle supply chain. The position broadly calls for covering the legislative and regulatory landscape for mining, particularly the push for the U.S. to expand domestic production of minerals like lithium, copper and nickel for technology and electric vehicles, as well as the environmental implications of those moves. The reporter will also cover the financial, political, energy and environmental realities of the coal industry. The beat includes regulations out of the Interior Department, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Labor, and the politics and personalities behind the agencies. You will efficiently handle quick-turnaround daily stories while juggling enterprise reporting and feature writing. You’ll go where the action is — be it in the halls of Congress, in the bowels of the Interior Department, or wherever our travel budget takes you. You’ll chase down lawmakers on the Hill, work the phones, and ultimately find yourself talking to miners in West Virginia or exploring a metal mining operation out West. We want someone who will be able to explain the implications of federal actions.
