CherryRoad Media is seeking a dynamic, experienced Editor as a leader in the newsroom.
Massachusetts (Boston suburbs)
First in charge of the newsroom. The Editor oversees the print and online products of the publication and supervises editorial staff to ensure all editorial requirements/standards are met. Candidates must be located within the Boston area within a reasonable distance to adequately cover local events.
EXAMPLES OF THE WORK
:
Adhere to journalistic ethics, and assure reporting is balanced and objective.
Confers with CherryRoad Media policies.
Coordinates functions and operations between departments, develops editorial and operating procedures, and negotiates decisions.
Supervise daily tasks, including planning, story assignments, editing, layout, page makeup and assuring deadlines are met
Ensures policies and operating procedures comply with federal and state law.
Prepare and supervise newsroom budget.
Communicate with readers, answer questions, and provide information.
Oversee and contribute to social media sites and website.
Work with editorial staff to coordinate and ensure full coverage of news, human interest, and sports in the market.
Assure the newspaper is meeting its responsibility as a public watchdog through hyper local, in-depth reporting.
Write daily editorials, a weekly column and stories as needed.
Produce photography and videos as needed.
Work closely with upper management team, including directors of advertising, circulation production and the business office.
Represent the newspaper at public functions.
Represent the newspaper by serving on select public boards and organizations.
Establish the philosophy of local news, features, and sports coverage.
Oversee the processing of expense forms, purchase orders and other paperwork.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Communication skills for the ability to gather information and author articles.
Ability to work with required technology and computer programs.
Writing skills to include proper grammar, spelling, punctuation and journalism guidelines and AP style.
Ability to react quickly to new developments and exercise judgement.
Ability to manage multiple stories and deadlines.
Required Education And Experience
At least 10 years of field related experience
Degree in Journalism or related field of study preferred, but not required.
Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.
