Role summary

The Hemming Group, publisher of the market-leading weekly title for local government management The MJ (Municipal Journal) is looking for an ambitious editor to lead its exciting new launch in the health sector. The autumn 2024 launch will comprise a fortnightly publication and a website aimed at senior management in the NHS. The magazine and website will cover the increased integration between the health and local government sectors along with news about the NHS and the wider healthcare policy agenda affecting senior NHS management.

Core responsibilities

To plan editorial content and design for the new title and website and oversee their launch in conjunction with the publisher and editorial director.
Work with the head of content delivery on the site wireframes and design.
To provide daily updated content for the website along with the editorial team.
To provide accurate content for the fortnightly publication with the editorial team.
To commission outside contributors where necessary.
To be responsible for providing all editorial headings, standfirst and captions etc for layout sub.
Build and send newsletters.
Establish close working relationships with other company departments, especially recruitment and display sales teams, events and marketing.
Work with the sales teams to develop leads and new routes to market (roundtables, webinars, forums etc.).
Attend health sector conferences.
Establish contacts with key stakeholders in the health sector.
Chair in-house round tables and events.

Person specification

Senior editorial experience essential, both online and offline, either at editor level though post could suit candidate currently at deputy editor level looking for promotion.
Understanding of and interest in government and current affairs, notably as they affect the public sector, is essential.
Knowledge of health sector important but clinical knowledge not required.
Ability to work under pressure essential.
Ability to be a team player essential.
Exceptional organisational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, excellent verbal and written English.
Proficient at using different IT systems and able to pick up technology easily.

Remuneration and benefits:
