The Cherokee Scout, the primary news source for Cherokee County, N.C., since 1889, is looking for an editor to head up local news coverage. The editor serves as the newspaper’s senior staff writer, covering the most important local news every week, while also overseeing the rest of the news operation. The right candidate will be a very good writer and an even better reporter, someone who cares deeply about accuracy, ethics and integrity while also being a fun person to work with. Photography, design and website skills would all be assets; the Scout uses Apple computers, Adobe software and Nikon cameras. This full-time position with benefits is a great opportunity to make a positive difference in a rural mountain community that still produces an incredible amount of news, perfect for a strong reporter looking to move up or an experienced editor looking for a new place to call home. Please email your resume, a cover letter with three professional references and five samples of your best work to dbrown@cherokeescout.com. If this sounds good to you, let's talk soon.
