The Editor is a professional that provides quality assurance (QA) review of documents according to defined standards and client formats. In addition to editing, the individual performs quality control (QC) by formatting and finalizing proposals and deliverables. The Editor possesses the skill set to review document content for organization, clarity, conciseness, grammar, style, and terminology. This individual must have the ability to work in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and commitment to meeting client deadlines. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Edit a variety of documents, which may include, but not be limited to, technical reports, proposals, guidelines, newsletters, articles, diagrams, and procurement/specifications documents
Complete editing assignments according to defined standards and best practices regarding content organization and flow, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology, as well as grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Provide quality assurance review that identifies errors, inconsistencies, and anomalies
Provide QA/QC support
Meet deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates/timelines for information-gathering, editing, peer review, and approval
Produce high-quality work most efficiently and productively to support business operations
Work independently and efficiently with minimal direction and supervision
Continually assess and revise the manner in which assignments are accomplished to improve productivity and quality
Perform other duties as requested
QUALIFICATIONS:
Five years of relevant experience in editing technical documents, proposals, reports, and articles
Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university, or two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or similar is preferred
Certificates, licenses, and registrations required: None Required
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Other skills required:
Ability to edit a wide variety of technical and non-technical material for professional audiences
Documented proficiency regarding English-language usage, including the ability to spell and define words correctly and to adhere to rules governing grammar and composition
Proven ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and balance multiple efforts to meet deadlines
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment as well as individually
A positive attitude with a passion for attention to detail
Background working within public safety and justice communications, organizations, and technologies is a plus
Valid driver’s license
