External Relations Officer

We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic external relations officer to join our communications team. Working as part of the Birmingham City University press office, this role is focused on media relations, while also supporting public affairs activity and event management to enhance the University's reputation among a wide variety of external stakeholders. Reporting to the external relations manager and supporting the head of communications, you will play a crucial role in how we tell our distinctive story to a range of audiences, developing the reputation of BCU as the University for Birmingham, transforming lives and making a significant impact on the city, region and beyond. The successful candidate will have a flair for sourcing strong, newsworthy stories and the ability to produce high-quality, sharp and engaging copy - including press releases, news alerts, expert comment on the rolling news agenda, and digital content for web and social media.
