We have an exciting opportunity in our New York office for an assistant US managing editor, a key editorial leadership role in a market where our expansion plans are at the top of the FT’s priority list. This role will be charged with deputising Peter Spiegel, our US Managing Editor, on both personnel and editorial issues. As a result, the successful candidate will have a keen interest in the people side of editorial operations, helping to identify and recruit potential hires as well as managing relationships with external partners to continue diversification of the US newsroom. The new assistant US managing editor will work alongside Peter Spiegel and David Crow (US News Editor), and will be pivotal in executing our US growth plan initiatives, which includes liaising with colleagues in the FT’s commercial and technology departments on specific projects. Among the initiatives that will be part of the assistant US managing editor’s portfolio will be partnerships with social media groups like LinkedIn, and groups like the National Association of Black Journalists and National Association of Hispanic Journalists, coordinating on joint projects with Nikkei, and helping steer cross-FT efforts to better engage with students and academia.
