Northern England Correspondent

New Posted 16 November 2021 | London, United Kingdom | Financial Times

We are looking for a Northern England Correspondent. This is a major opportunity for an experienced journalist who is equipped to make the linkages between party politics, public policy and economics. It comes at a time when Northern England is more central to political fortunes in Westminster than at any time for a generation. You will be a central member of the FT’s Public Policy team, but will also work closely with colleagues in the Westminster Lobby to break stories that truly interrogate and flesh out the government’s broad ‘levelling’ up agenda. You’re a driven and ambitious writer, who while working within the team, will be able to carve out a strong personal profile. You will look far beyond the remit of the traditional regional ‘beat reporter’, using data and analysis to challenge conventional North-South narratives, probing the gap between political rhetoric and the reality on the ground. You’ll also play a vital role in helping to shape the FT’s UK coverage ahead of the next General Election which will focus heavily on the fortunes of the Midlands and the North after Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic.
